#36: Easy Eggless Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (215 g) cake flour
  • 1 cup (200 g) white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons (15 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon (3 g) baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon (3 g) baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 g) salt
  • 1 cup (235 ml) water
  • 1/3 cup (75 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) distilled white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (45 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 (14 ounce) (390 g) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 8 x 8 inch (20 x 20 cm) square pan.
  2. Sift the flour, sugar, 3 tablespoons (15 g) cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt together. Make a well in the center and add the water, oil, vinegar and vanilla. Beat until smooth and pour batter into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes.
  4. To Make Frosting: Combine the 1/2 cup (45 g) cocoa powder, sweetened condensed milk and butter in the top half of a double boiler and cook until thick. Spread warm mixture over the top of a slightly cooled cake.
